Ted V. Burke was born September 20, 1925 to Jesse W. and LaVonia Clarke Burke in Vernal Utah. He was one of twelve children. At the age of 21 he married Elva Woodard September 22, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Ted proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII from 1943-1946. He ran a landing craft (Higgins Boat) in the Naval Amphibious force participating in 5 major invasions in the South Pacific. Ted V. Burke was born September 20, 1925 to Jesse W. and LaVonia Clarke Burke in Vernal Utah. He was one of twelve children. At the age of 21 he married Elva Woodard September 22, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Ted proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII from 1943-1946. He ran a landing craft (Higgins Boat) in the Naval Amphibious force participating in 5 major invasions in the South Pacific. As a professional truck driver, he drove for 51 years and drove 7 million miles without a chargeable accident and received many safety awards. He drove for IML Freight for 23 years and retired with Overnight Freight. Ted was hardworking and provided well for his family. He enjoyed traveling, camping and working in his yard. He also really enjoyed attending his Naval Reunions, returning to the base he received basic training at what was once known as Farragut Naval Training station in Farragut, ID. Ted passed away May 6, 2017 at the age of 91, four days before his beloved wife, Elva.
Elva I. Burke was born March 25, 1928 to Elmer C. and Cassie Costello Woodard, in Neola, Utah. She had one brother. She married Ted V. Burke September 22, 1946 in Salt Lake City. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. She served several callings in the LDS Church including, Relief Society, sang in the choir and taught Primary for 24 years. Elva worked hard to provide a nice home for her family. She enjoyed traveling and shopping (for that big sale.) From this union was born one son, Dennis Ted Burke (Barbara). Grandchildren: Darin (Caprice), Amber (Brett) and Tom (Tara) and great-grandchildren. Ted and Elva were married for 70 years. Elva passed away May 10, 2017 at the age of 89. Four days after her beloved husband, Ted. They will be greatly missed.
A double memorial graveside service will be held on May 25, 2017 at 11:00 AM and one hour prior at Wasatch Lawn and Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, UT.
